The Course of History dell'Oreficeria and Decorative Arts is celebrating its fifteenth edition with a tribute to the beauty dedicated to collecting and Venetian collectors, in continuity with the lecture course of 2014.
The inaugural lecture (February 7) opens with an unprecedented "of" paper museum or the famous manuscript collection of Venetian Various sacred and profane curiosity of the graphic collection of the noble Pietro Gradenigo. With watercolor drawings of John Grevembroch illustrating some pieces of sacred goldsmith value Baroque and Rococo, he will try to rebuild the Venetian goldsmith scene between seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, highlighting the leading silversmiths, their works, the evolution of taste .
With a leap of three centuries from art jewelery it is passed to the passion for the decorative arts (14 February) with the important collection of the Foundation of Venice glass that counts among masters Seguso, Venini and Zecchin. The works are acquired by the Cassa di Risparmio di Venezia that collects since 1930, when the bank finances the Venice Pavilion in the Giardini.
A special focus is dedicated to the history of the fan (20 February), the subject first made of natural elements (palm leaves, ostrich feathers or peacock) before becoming an imaginative realization and finally a work of art. To evoke this story will start from an unusual and exceptional private collection, which will also talk about the values and meanings representative symbolic of royalty, religion, power, magic and femininity contained in this small object of worship.
Finally, in collaboration with the Civic Museum Foundation of Venice, the last lesson of the course will be held at the Museo di Palazzo Mocenigo headquarters of the Study Centre of the History of Textiles and Costume, precisely on March 8, the day of "Women's Day". What better time to lay eyes on the laces of the Foundation "Andriana Marcello", the realization of these jewels of the Venetian manufacturing techniques but also an exceptional figure of woman with great courage and initiative, he revived the art of lace in Burano, while contributing to women's empowerment in the island in the late nineteenth century.
